GROUP: Bird Watching

Group for people interested in Bird watching. The group meets in various places to observe the local wildlife. For details of leaders and organiser click here.

The walks are every 4th Tuesday in the month starting at 10am at the birding site. In adverse weather conditions - heavy rain or snow contact the leader to confirm if it has been cancelled. Car sharing is recommended especially if car parking spaces are limited. It is advisable to bring your own light refreshments and of course wear clothes/footwear suitable for a variety of terrains. Most walks will be 2-3 hours long depending on the sightings and 3-4 miles maximum in length.

January 23rd Burton Mill local nature reserve GU28 0JR Meet at the small car park by the mill. Take the Chichester road from Petworth (A285) going over a narrow bridge by the beam pump engine and then take the next left onto a B road. After about a mile, you will see Burton pond on the right and a small car park which drops down sharply on the left near to the pond.

February 27th Farlington Marshes PO6 1LG 3 car parks available but meet at the far end car park nearest to the reserve entrance. Follow the A3 onto the motorway (A3M) then onto the A27, then taking the slip road for Farlington Services. The turning to the reserve car park is a sharp left going back on you at the bottom of the slip road - (no signage for it).
Many over Wintering geese/ducks and waders/short-eared owls.
March 27th The Burgh BN18 9LS Join the A29 from the Fittleworth road (B2138) towards Arundel. At the next roundabout after Bury hill take the first left signed Houghton/Amberley (B2139). Continue thro' Houghton and after a narrow bridge over the river turn right at Amberley station signed North Stoke. Continue to the end of this road at a T junction turn left along a track until a barn complex is seen on the right hand side. Park on the verge here. Parking is limited here to the side of a farm track.
Endangered Farmland birds - yellowhammers, corn buntings, sky larks, partridge, red kites etc.
April 24th Cutmill Pond/the Tarn Pond GU3 1BG (From Elstead direction) at the crossroads where Suffield Lane and Littleworth Road meet, continue on towards Puttenham with the large Tarn Pond on your left. Meeting point is the middle car park on the left, straight after the Tarn Pond and not the car park at the cross roads.

May 22nd Blackdown GU27 3BJ Make your own way to the top of Blackdown via Tennyson's Lane. Meeting point is the first car park (from Haslemere).

June 26th Frensham Great Pond GU10 3DX Make your own way to the main large car park and meeting point at the information hut. Plenty of car parking and facilities.
